About the role

Role Overview

Lead intellectual property activities and strategy across Motion Drive Products research and development, helping protect and strengthen the organisation’s technology and innovation. The role connects R&D, business teams, and the Legal IP organisation, with responsibility for patent portfolio management, IP protection processes, and strategic advice.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead IP activities within Motion Drive Products R&D and develop non-legal IP strategies and policies aligned with business and technology priorities.
• Coordinate with the division technology manager on IP priorities, decisions, and escalations.
• Lead IP protection activities, ensure appropriate IP processes are embedded in R&D projects, support IP risk assessments, and oversee IP aspects of key projects.
• Manage the R&D patent portfolio, including portfolio shaping and pruning, cross-organisational coordination, and alignment of IP investment with strategy.
• Support the exploitation and enforcement of IP rights in coordination with IP Legal.
• Monitor the competitive technology and intellectual property landscape to identify opportunities, risks, and relevant developments.
• Act as the interface between Motion Drive Products R&D, the Legal IP organisation, the BA Patent Officer, and other relevant functions.
• Provide IP advice and help ensure appropriate IP training, awareness, processes, and tools are available.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Science, Technology, Intellectual Property, or a related field.
• 5–8 years of relevant experience in intellectual property, preferably in an R&D or technology-driven environment.
• Broad knowledge of intellectual property rights, patent portfolio management, IP strategy, and IP processes, together with a strong understanding of technology and business.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with global teams across R&D, business, Legal IP, and other functions.
• Demonstrated willingness to innovate, take ownership, and drive continuous improvement.
