Role Overview
The Legal Support Person provides assistance, guidance, and emotional support to survivors throughout the legal process, helping protect their rights, address their needs, and navigate the legal system effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Inform and orient survivors about their legal rights.
- Help and guide survivors in initiating legal proceedings relating to abuse or violence.
- Provide a safe and empathetic environment for survivors to share their experiences and feelings.
- Offer emotional support throughout legal proceedings, recognising the trauma associated with crime.
- Explain the legal process, survivors' rights, and available options clearly and comprehensibly.
- Help survivors understand legal terminology and procedures.
